في 31 آذار 2024، وقعت جريمة في الأشرفية، راح ضحيتها رجل سبعيني مقعد، وأصيبت زوجته بجروح.
وإذ أوقفت مخابرات الجيش، الأربعاء، المشتبه بتورطهم/ن في هذه الجريمة، المأساوية، شاع قبل ذلك بدفع من وسائل إعلام أن مدبرة المنزل تواطأت مع شابين، فسهلت دخولهما الشقة بهدف سرقتها، قبل أن تتحول جريمة قتل.
والاهتمام البالغ بالجريمة لا يرجع إلى فظاعتها أو دوافعها فحسب، بل إلى كون المشتبه بهم/ن سوريين/ات. هكذا، بدأ التداول بصورة هوية مدبرة المنزل وعقد عملها، فيما نسخت وسائل الإعلام عن بعضها، من دون تحديد مصدر المعلومة، أن الشابين كانا يتكلمان بلهجة سورية. واللهجة، في هذه الحالة، ليست أداة تواصل، في وظيفتها اللغوية الأولى، بل أداة الجريمة والدليل إليها.
والحال أن ذكر جنسية المشتبه بهم/ن أو المتهمين/ات ما عاد يثير أي حساسية. ولا تُطرح بشأنه أسئلة عن الفائدة الخبرية والأخلاقيات المهنية. صار بديهية لا تُساءل. وهذا ما يبدو منطقياً، إذا قورن بما يليه، وهو أسوأ منه، أي: الاستنتاجات التحريضية. وهذا ما يمكن معاينته بوضوح في تغطية MTV لخبر الجريمة، في 1 نيسان.
كان خبر الجريمة الأول في نشرة الظهيرة. نقلٌ مباشر، من أمام المبنى الذي وقعت فيه، استمر لـ6 دقائق من أصل 30 دقيقة. وبعد عرض المراسلة ميريلا بو خليل ما جمعته من أقوال الجيران، مكررة ذكر جنسية المشتبه بهم/ن، استصرحت مختار الأشرفية طوني نعمة. وهو، في تعليقه على الجريمة، نقل الحدث إلى مرحلة متقدمة من الاستنتاج، أي التحريض. فصارت هذه الجريمة مرآة جميع السوريين/ات. إذ سبق له أن «بلغنا عن هالموضوع ولوين واصلين، وهلأ [القتيل] ما رح يكون الأول ولا الأخير (…). منطلب ما يجبرونا نضطر ناخد حقنا بيدنا. محافظ بيروت أمهل 15 يوم للسوريين ليقوموا بواجباتهن، كل واحد مش عامل وراقه الشرعية رح يرحلوا على بلدو (…). هيدا تما نرجع نوصل لمصيبة تانية وتالتة ورابعة».
وإذا لم يكن تصريح المختار كافياً في توجيه التهمة إلى السوريين/ات، كتلة واحدة، عقبت بو خليل أن «هيدا الموضوع منو الأول ودايماً عم نسمع بالمطالبة بتحديد الأشخاص اللاجئين يلي قاعدين بالمناطق، وطبعاً يكون في نظام ويكونوا مقوننين لوجودن بهيدي المنطقة (…). هيدي المشكلة إذا ما انحلت رح نشوف نزيه [الضحية] آخر وآخر، وجريمة تلو الأخرى إن كان ببيروت أو بالمناطق».
بعد تهنئة «السياسيين»، «الذين أكلوا الأخضر واليابس»، بعيدهم، أي في يوم الكذب، انتقلت مقدمة نشرة الأخبار المسائية «في السياق» إلى استيقاظ اللبنانيين/ات «اليوم على جريمة مروعة في الأشرفية». ذكرت المقدمة جنسية المشتبه بهم/ن، ثم جاء دور الاستنتاج، أي التحريض: «جريمة الأشرفية نموذج عما ينتظر اللبنانيين في حال ظلت السلطات اللبنانية غائبة عن السمع ولا تبالي بالانتشار الكثيف وغير المضبوط للسوريين بين المنازل وفي الأحياء».
كان خبر الجريمة الأول في النشرة المسائية، عبر تقرير أعدته بو خليل أيضاً. وهي، بعد ذكرها جنسية المشتبه بهم/ن وعرضها شهادة جارة الضحية، عادت إلى المختار نفسه، لكن في تصريح أكثر وضوحاً هذه المرة. ومما قاله «Sorry عم نركز على السوري، لأنو ما في جرايم عم تصير إلا من اخوانا السوريين، مع احترامنا لكل الأوادم بسوريا».
بعدها، يُختتم التقرير بفيديوهات من مخيمات سوريين/ات، واستنتاج/ تحريض معدة التقرير: «في ضوء النسب الرسمية للموقوفين والجرائم، فالدولة مطالبة بوضع حد لتفلت اللاجئين السوريين وضبطهم بطرق قانونية، وإلا فإن السيناريو سيتكرر ولن ينفع الندم إذا ما لجأ البعض إلى الأمن الذاتي».
Crime in Ashrafieh (1): MTV’s Inciting Conclusions
On March 31, 2024, a crime occurred in Ashrafieh, where a seventy-year-old disabled man was killed, and his wife was injured.The Intelligence military detained the suspects with this tragic crime on Wednesday. Previously, the media reports suggested that the housemaid collaborated with two young men, facilitating their entry into the apartment with the intention of robbing it, which ultimately escalated into murder.
The intense focus on crime is not solely due to its heinousness or motives, but also because the suspects are Syrians. Thus, speculation began regarding the orchestrated identity of the housekeeper and her employment contract, while some media outlets, without specifying the source of the information, stated that the two young men spoke with a Syrian accent. In this case, the accent is not merely a means of communication in its primary linguistic function, but rather a tool of crime and evidence thereof.
Mentioning the nationality of the suspects or defendants no longer raises any sensitivity, and questions about journalistic integrity and professional ethics are no longer raised. It has become an unquestionable norm. This seems logical when compared to what follows, which is even worse: incitement conclusions. This is clearly evident in MTV’s coverage of the crime news on April 1st.
Live Coverage
The crime news was the first to be broadcast in the noon breakflash. A live broadcast from the scene of the incident lasted for 6 out of the total 30 minutes. After correspondent Mirella Bou Khalil presented the statements gathered from neighbors, repeatedly mentioning the nationality of the suspects, the mayor of Ashrafieh, Tony Neameh was interviewed. In his commentary on the crime, he moved the event to an advanced stage of inference, namely incitement. This crime became a mirror for all Syrians. As he stated, “We have reported about this issue and where it is heading, and now [the victim] won’t be the first or the last (…). We demand that they don’t force us to take matters into our own hands. The governor of Beirut has given Syrians 15 days to fulfill their duties. Those who haven’t completed their legitimate papers will be deported to their country (…). This is how we will prevent a second, third and more tragedies from occurring.”
As if the Mayor’s statement was not sufficient to direct the accusation towards Syrians collectively. Bou Khalil contributed by her declaration, “This issue is not the first of its type, we are always hearing demands about the identification of the refugee individuals residing in the areas, and of course, and it should be systemised with legal reasons illustrating their presence in these areas (…). If this problem is not resolved, we will continue to see Nazih [victim] one after another, and one crime after another, whether in Beirut or in the regions.”
Evening breaking news introduction
After congratulating the “politicians” who have “devoured everything,” celebrating their own day, which is the day of lies (April’s fool), the introduction of the evening news “contextually” shifted to the awakening of Lebanese people today to a horrific crime in Ashrafieh.
The introduction mentioned the nationality of the suspects, followed by the conclusion, i.e., incitement: “The Ashrafieh crime is a model of what awaits the Lebanese if the Lebanese authorities remain absent from listening and indifferent to the widespread and uncontrolled presence of Syrians among the houses and neighborhoods.”
The Evening News Report
The first news item in the evening report was about the crime, presented though a report prepared by Bou Khalil too. After mentioning the nationality of the suspects and presenting a testimony from the victim’s neighbor, the report returned to the same person (Ashrafieh Mayor), but with a clearer statement this time. Part of what he said, “Sorry, we’re focusing on Syrians because crimes are only being committed by our Syrian brothers, with all due respect to the good people in Syria.”
Following that, the report concluded with videos from Syrian refugee camps and a prepared inference/incitement: “In light of the official ratios of detainees and crimes, the state is required to put an end to the escape of Syrian refugees and regulate them legally, otherwise, the scenario will repeat itself, and regret won’t help if some resort to self-security.”
