قبل ليلة الميلاد بليلة واحدة، طردت عائلة سورية من منزلها في الأشرفية بعد أن تعرض أفرادها للضرب، ليقضوا ليلتهم في الشارع تحت المطر.
تعمل الأم ناطورة للمبنى، تعيش مع زوجها الذي يعاني من مرض مناعيّ مزمن وطفلين عمرهما سنتين وخمس سنوات. لا يوجد راتب للمرأة. العمل مقابل السكن.
يتضمن عمل المرأة رمي القمامة، تنظيف الدرج، تلبية طلبات سكّان المبنى، فتح باب المدخل لعمال الديلفري وتنظيف المنازل.
كان بعض السكّان لطفاء، تقول المرأة لـ«أخبار الساحة»، أما الآخرون فكانوا يتصرّفون وكأنهم لا يرونني.
بحسب الاتفاق، العمل كان ليلياً إلا أنهم كانوا يمنعونها من الذهاب خارج المبنى نهاراً. «كنت راضية عن هذه الشروط، لأني كنت بحاجة لمأوى لي ولعائلتي».
أما عن اليوم الذي وقعت فيه المشكلة، فتقول المرأة «كنت أعتني بابنتي وزوجي المريضين، عندما أتت سيدة في تمام الساعة الثانية والنصف لزيارة أقاربها القاطنين في المبنى، اعتدت على قدومها اليومي عند الخامسة عصراً، فقد كنت أوصلها إلى الطابق السابع لأنها تخاف من المصعد. كانت السيدة تسألني عن مواعيد انقطاع الكهرباء، ثم أتت ابنة أختها ووقفتا تتحدّثان عند الباب. تركتهما واقفتين وعدت إلى غرفتي. بعدها أتى والد الفتاة إلي وهو يصرخ بي لأنني لم أفتح الباب. أجبته بأنها لم تطلب مني أن أفتح لها».
تقول المرأة إنه بعد ذهاب الأب عادت الفتاة إليها، مسكتها من حجابها وبدأت تصرخ بها «عم تكذبيني! تطلعي عليي ولك يا كلبة إذا مش عاجبك الشغل عنا هلق بتنقبري بتفلي، في ألف واحد بيجي ببوس صرمايتنا ليشتغل عنا».
تقول المرأة إنها حاولت استيعاب الموقف كي لا تفقد مكان سكنها، وأجابتها بأنها راضية عن عملها. ثم حاول الزوج التدخّل، طالباً من الفتاة أن تصدق زوجته لأن لا نيّة لهما بافتعال مشكلة، فانهالت عليه بالضرب بحذائها ذي الكعب على قدميه وبطنه ووجهه. لم تتوقف عن ضربه، على الرغم من وجود ابنته ذات العامين في حضنه.
بدأ سكّان الحيّ بالتجمّع أمام الغرفة، فطلبت المرأة من زوجها الاستسلام وعدم الدفاع عن نفسه، «خلي الخلق يشوفوا كيف ما تعدّينا عليها، هي تعدّت علينا كرمال فتحة باب». لكن الزوج اضطر في آخر الأمر لإبعادها عنه، «والله العظيم حتى عالأرض ما وقعت، ضلّت واقفة بس بعدها عنو عم يحمي حالو»، حسب ما وصفت المرأة الموقف.
خرجت الفتاة من الغرفة واتصلت بأبيها وأخيها طالبةً النجدة منهما، «تعوا شوفوا هالكلب الحيوان عم يضربني».
نزل الرجلان، انهالا بالضرب على الزوج المريض، أما الطفلة فقد ضرباها على جبينها، وقطعا الأقراط الموجودة في أذنيها.
«طردونا خارج الغرفة، أوقفونا على باب العمارة، تعرضنا للضرب والذل، جمعوا المارّة حولنا قائلين تعوا شوفوا هالكلاب، ثم اتصلوا بعناصر من حزب القوّات لإكمال ما شرعوا به».
عندما وصل عناصر القوات، تقدّم أحدهم نحو الزوج وسأله لمن تعود الطفلة، فأخبره أنها ابنته، طلب منه اعطاءها لزوجته. تقول المرأة «قلي خديها وانقلعي وقفي هنيك».
كان القواتي يضرب الزوج، ثم يسأله: من ضربك؟ وكلما أجابه أنت، يعيد الضرب من جديد، قائلاً «مين ما بيسألك وبتقول أنا ضربتك رح يقلك كذاب ما ضربتك أنا، انت اللي ضربت البنت». بعدها أقفلوا باب الغرفة، وقالوا «يلا انقلعوا ما الكن لا غراض ولا شي».
لاحقاً، تدخّل بعض الجيران للسماح للعائلة بأخذ أغراضها. الكدمات الزرقاء ما زالت موجودة على جبهة الطفلة وآثار الضرب تغطي وجه وجسد الزوج، أما الصبي الصغير فما يزال خائفاً حتى الساعة. العائلة ما زالت من دون مأوى، ومنذ تلك الليلة والمرأة تجول الشوارع بحثاً عن منزل بايجار مقبول، من دون جدوى.
تقول المرأة إنهم كانوا يقولون لها «نحنا مش شايفينك، انتي كلبة والكلب محطوط ليحرس». وتسأل «هل من المنطقي أن يتحدثوا معي هكذا؟ لقد تحملت كل أنواع الذل كي لا أفقد الغرفة التي تأويني أنا وعائلتي، ورغم ذلك نحن اليوم في الشارع».
A Syrian family beaten and expelled out of their house in Ashrafieh a night before Christmas
One night before Christmas, a Syrian family was kicked out of their house in Ashrafieh, after its members got beaten, and they spent their night in the streets, under the rain.
The mother worked as a janitor in a building. where she lived with her husband, who suffers from a chronic immune disease, and their two children, aged two and five. She had no salary. Instead, she worked in return for accommodation.
The woman’s job included taking out the garbage, cleaning the stairs, meeting the needs of the building’s residents, opening the entrance door for delivery workers, and cleaning the houses.
Some residents were nice, she told “Akhbar AlSaha”, while others acted as if she’s invisible to them.
According to the agreement, the job was nightly, but they prevented her from going outside the building during the day. “I agreed to these conditions, because I needed a shelter for me and my family.”
As for the day on which the quarrel occurred, she says, “I was taking care of my sick daughter and husband, when a woman came at 2:30 to visit her relatives who reside in the building. I was used to her coming at around 5 pm, on a daily basis, since it was me who accompanied her to the seventh floor, because she’s scared of going in an elevator. The woman was asking me about the timings of the power cuts, when her niece joined, stood with her by the door and they started talking. I left them there and went back to my room.” After a while the girl’s father came yelling at me for not opening the entrance door for his daughter. I told him that she didn’t ask me to open the door for her.
She says that after the father left, his daughter came back, grabbed her by the hijab and started yelling at her, “you’re saying I’m a liar! Look at me you dog, if you don’t like working for us, leave now, thousands of people would beg to work for us.”
The woman says that she tried to comprehend the situation, to avoid losing her house, so she answered that she was satisfied with her job. And when the husband tried to intervene, asking her to believe his wife, since they had no intention of causing trouble, she started hitting him with her high-heeled shoes on his feet, stomach and face. She didn’t stop hitting him, despite the fact that he was holding his two-year-old daughter.
The residents of the neighbourhood began to gather in front of the room, so the woman asked her husband to surrender and not defend himself. “Let people see how we did not attack her, she assaulted us because of a door”. The husband however was forced to push her away from him, “I swear to God, she didn’t even fall to the ground. She remained standing still, he only moved her away, he was protecting himself,” according to what she described the situation.
The girl left the room and called her father and brother, asking them for help, “Come and see this dog is hitting me.”
They came down and started beating the sick husband. As for the little girl, they hit her on the forehead and cut off the earrings in her ears. “They kicked us out of the room, made us stop at the door of the building, where they hit and humiliated us. Passers-by gathered around us. They told them ‘Come and see these dogs.’ Then they called members of the Lebanese Forces Party to proceed with what they started.”
When the members arrived, one of them approached the husband and asked him to whom the child belonged. He told him that she was his daughter, so he asked him to give her to the wife. The woman says, “he told me to take her and stand there.”
This man kept asking the husband, while beating him: ‘Who hit you?’ And whenever the husband answered with ‘you’, he would hit him again, saying, “if someone asks you and you say that I hit you, they’ll tell you that you’re lying. I didn’t hit you, you are the one who hit the girl.” Then they locked the door of the room, and said, “go forth, leave, you have no belongings here, nothing.”
Later, some neighbours intervened to allow the family to take their belongings.
Bruises are still there on the little girl’s forehead, and the marks of beating cover the husband’s face and body. As for the little boy, he is still horrified. The family is still homeless, and since that night the woman has been roaming the streets in search of a house with an acceptable rent, but to no avail.
The woman says that they used to tell her, “We don’t see you, you are a dog, and the dog is placed around to guard.” She asks, “Is it logical for them to talk to me like this? I have endured all kinds of humiliation in order not to lose the room that shelters me and my family, and despite that we are today in the streets.”
