لم يخل شهر شباط 2023 من تصريحات وممارسات عنصرية، وتحديداً تجاه اللاجئين/ات السوريين/ات، وإن كانت مقارنة بالأشهر السابقة أقل كثافة. لكن ما يمكن أن يثير الاهتمام هو التفاوت الكبير في الخيال التعدادي «للخبراء»، عند تقديرهم أرقام الشبان السوريين القادرين على حمل السلاح. وهو، في كل الأحوال، خيال محدود لا في إقصائه النساء الشابات فحسب، بل ربما الأطفال وكبار السن والعصافير والقطط والكلاب والسلاحف وزهرة دوار الشمس، وإلى آخره من الكائنات الحية، من القدرة على حمل السلاح واستعماله.

حذرت الجبهة المسيحية، بعد اجتماع لها، «من تفاقم الخطر الناتج عن ملف اللاجئين السوريين الذين فقدوا هذه الصفة قانوناً وأصبحوا بمثابة مهاجرين…»، مؤكدة أنها «تتابع هذا الملف بحذر شديد مع المعنيين ومع كافة القوى الفاعلة في الساحة السياسية من أجل درء الانفجار الاجتماعي وربما الأمني…»، داعية «اللبنانيين إلى التكاتف والتضامن في مواجهة هذه الأخطار».
عبّر العميد المتقاعد هشام جابر، في مقابلة مع Lebanon on، عن خوفه مما سماه خطر تسلّح اللاجئين/ات السوريين/ات، قائلاً «بدك تحسب إنو في 200 ألف شاب سوري بلبنان، هول مدربين على حمل السلاح، تصور انت 200 ألف سوري بلبنان معهن 200 ألف قطعة سلاح هول بشكّلوا خطر، في مين عم يوجهن ويدفعلن، صحيح ما تنظموا بس بيتسلحوا خلال أسبوعين».

غرّدت مذيعة قناة MTV نادين كفوري، على تويتر، تعليقاً على إضراب عمال الدليفري في شركة توترز، «في عمال بشركة غالبيتهم مش لبنانيين عاملين إضراب. بحب إلفت نظركون إنو بعد الإضراب بيصير في لجنة وبعد اللجنة نقابة وبعد النقابة اتحاد نقابات وبالآخر بيصيرو يطالبوا بصوت يمثلون بالبرلمان. المعركة بغير مطرح والسياسيين ملهيين بشوية بريق».

قال رئيس بلدية القاع بشير مطر، خلال زيارة تفقدية لمخيمات اللاجئات/ين في سهل القاع، «هنالك خطر بيئي ناجم عن استهلاك اللاجئات لمادة البلاستيك بغرض التدفئة»، بدل الحطب والمازوت.

اعتدى دانيال شهدا، وهو شرطي في بلدية بزبينا، على قاصر سوريّ بعد أن اتهمه زوراً بأنه سرق محفظة ابنه.
بعد الاعتداء، نشرت بلدية بزبينا بياناً وصفت فيه الاختطاف والضرب بـ«الحادث الشخصي»، متبنية رواية المعتدي، إلا أنها في اليوم التالي اضطرت إلى فصل شهدا من وظيفته لحفظ ماء وجهها.
تقدمت عائلة الشاب بشكوى ضد الشرطي، ولكنها سرعان ما تنازلت عنها جراء تعرضها لتهديد بالطرد من المنزل في حال لم تتراجع عنها.

كتبت الصحافية، في موقع Lebanon 24، بولين أبو شقرا تقريراً بعنوان «تجارة سوداء داخل مخيمات النازحين.. هكذا تُسرق الكهرباء وتُجنى الدولارات!»، زعمت فيه أن اللاجئين/ات السوريين/ات يبيعون قسائم المازوت الخاصة بالتدفئة، لأنهم يسرقون الطاقة لتشغيل المدافئ الكهربائية من كهرباء لبنان، غير الموجودة أساساً منذ ما يزيد عن سنة. وفي حين أن «تحسن» التغذية، في شهر شباط الماضي تحديداً، لم يعن في أحسن الأحوال إلا ساعتين إلى أربع ساعات، متقطعة الأوقات، يومياً.

نشرت جريدة النهار تقريراً للصحافية لينا إسماعيل، بعنوان «القاع على فوهة بركان النازحين»، يتضمن تصريحاً لرئيس بلدية القاع بشير مطر، يحرض فيه على اللاجئين/ات السوريين في البلدة، الأحياء منهم/ن والأموات، لناحية الجرائم والفوضى والأزمة الاقتصادية والرعب الديمغرافي.

The month of February 2023 was filled with racist statements and practices, specifically towards the Syrian refugees, albeit less intense compared to previous months.
However, what may be relevant is the large inconsistency in the enumerative imagination of the “experts” especially when they estimate the numbers of Syrian youths who are able to arm up. In any case, it is a narrow imagination, not in precluding young women only, but perhaps children, the elderly, birds, cats, dogs, turtles, sunflowers, and other living creatures, from the capability of carrying and making use of weapons.

After a meeting, the Christian Bloc warned, “of the aggravation of the danger resulting from the issue of Syrian refugees who have legally lost this status and became immigrants…”, stressing that it is “following up this matter with those involved and with all the active forces in the political scene, with extreme caution, in order to avert a social, or perhaps a security explosion,” calling on “the Lebanese people to join hands and solidarity in the face of these endangerment.”
The Retired Brigadier General Hisham Jaber expressed, in an interview with Lebanon on, his fear of what he called the risk of the armament of the Syrian refugees, stating that “You have to think of the 200 thousand Syrian youths in Lebanon who are trained to carry weapons. Imagine if those 200 thousand own 200 thousand weapons. They are threatening. They are being directed, and they are getting paid. It is true that they’re not organized yet, but they’re able to be armed within two weeks.”

A presenter at MTV, Nadine Kfoury tweeted, commenting on the strike of the drivers at Toters, “There are workers in the company, the majority of whom are non-Lebanese, on a strike. I would like to draw your attention to the idea that after this revolt, there might form a committee, and after the committee a union, and after the union a federation of unions, and at the end they would demand a spokesman to represent them in the Parliament. The battle is far off, and the politicians are distracted by some sparkles.

The head of Al-Qaa municipality, Bashir Matar, expressed after an inspection visit to the refugees’ camps at the Plain there, that “There is an environmental danger resulting from the refugees’ utilization of plastic for the purpose of heating, instead of the firewood and the diesel fuel.”

Daniel Shahda, a policeman in the municipality of Bezbina, assaulted a Syrian minor after falsely accusing him of robbing his son’s wallet.
After the attack, the municipality of Bezbina published a statement describing the kidnapping and the beating as a “personal accident”, adopting the assailant’s narrative. However, the next day they dismissed Shahda from his job, to avoid condemnation.
The young man’s family filed a complaint against the policeman, but quickly dropped it because they were threatened with expulsion from their house in case they refused to retract it.

We have forgotten about the 2 million displaced Syrians in Lebanon, who pose a great menace, similar to the ones that we face inside. And in the event of any security infringement, how will these 2 million people, that comprise 700 thousand young men, act? Will there be areas of leverage for the Syrians in Akkar, the north and the Bekaa, in the event of any major security obstruction?”

The deputy in the parliament, Ghassan Skaf said, in an interview with Al-Jadeed TV, that “the Syrian displacement in Lebanon today resembles a ticking bomb. In a time span of seven years, the number of those displaced from Syria will become equal to the number of the residents in Lebanon.”

A Journalist in the Lebanon 24 website, Pauline Abou Chakra, wrote a report titled “Black trading affairs inside the camps for the displaced… and that’s how the electricity is stolen and the dollars are gained!”, in which she claimed that Syrian refugees are selling their diesel vouchers used for heating, because they are pilfering the energy to operate their electric heaters from the Electricity of Lebanon, which was initially non-existent for more than a year. While the “improvement” of the electric feed, in the month of February in particular, did not reach, at its best, two to four hours per day, with intermittent times.

“Annahar” newspaper published a report by Lina Ismail, a journalist, titled “Al-Qaa on the crater of The Displaced Syrians’ rupturing volcano”, which comprised a statement issued by the head of the municipality there, Bashir Matar, inciting against the Syrian refugees in the town, the living and the dead, in respect of the crimes, the chaos, the economic crisis, and the demographic “fear”.
